Bonded Ceramic Inlays

This patient presented with advanced tooth decay in the upper right posterior quadrant. The goal was to fabricate bonded porcelain inlays. These conservative restorations preserves as much natural tooth structure as possible eliminating the use of a crown.

Please note, crowns are not “bad” and I have done thousands of them in my career (and still do), however, dentistry has become more “tooth preserving” and it is my first goal to provide the least invasive restoration when I can.

Root Canal Therapy

Every effort was made to gingerly remove the decay and not compromise the pulp (requiring root canal therapy). Unfortunately, the decay was too extensive and root canal therapy on all three teeth was required.

Solid Tooth Structure

Since there was still a lot of good solid tooth structure remaining after the root canal therapy, I still chose to restore the teeth with bonded inlays. Here are the results. Three beautiful, bonded inlays conserving as much natural tooth structure as possible.
